November 19, 2019: Council of Women World Leaders and Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign languages Public Event
This event was opened to the Icelandic public and focused on gender equality and the importance that culture plays in achieving this objective. The event drew a full, and broad audience who were able to witness a fascinating and lively discussion between panelists. Panelists included Dr. Birna Arnbjörnsdóttir, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures and Director of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages, Mr. Andri Snær Magnason, author and environmentalist, and Council members, H.E. Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Prime Minister of Iceland and H.E Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, Former President of Iceland and founder of the Vigdís Institute
During the event, the high-level panel discussed the necessary steps needed in order to achieve gender equality, outlined some of the lessons that could be taken from Iceland and emulated across the world, and emphasized the importance of women role models and the responsibilities that come with being examples generations to come.

November 20, 2019: Power Together: Reykjavík Summit at Höfði House
The Power Together: Reykjavik Summit 2019 was held in cooperation with Women World Leaders and the University of Iceland. The event featured a round-table of women who have reached the highest echelons of leadership in their countries: Presidents, Prime Ministers and Special Guests addressed the most complex challenges facing the world. The timing of the event was ideal with the imminent 20th anniversary of UNSCR 1325 in 2020. Participants took the opportunity to collectively work towards identifying the best opportunities for claiming a seat for women at the negotiation table for peace and security, closing the data gap, and securing the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security National Action Plans. Laura Liswood, Secretary General of the Council of Women World Leaders gave closing remarks at the event, underscoring how the effective incorporation of the female perspective and of women’s rights has the potential to not only have a positive impact on the lives of women and girls, but also for men and boys.
