Biography
Emily de Jongh-Elhage was the fifth female Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles, as well as the last before the country was dissolved in 2010. Following the 2010 Curaçao general election, she was elected to parliament and served until her retirement in 2012.
Jongh-Elhage was born in 1946 and before entering politics de Jongh-Elhage worked as a teacher until 1982 and then as a prominent real estate agent. She entered the political arena in 1995 as a member of the Party for the Restructured Antilles. She was elected party leader in 2005 and won the elections for Parliament in 2006. She was sworn in as Prime Minister in 2006. She currently serves as a board member of several society and charity foundations as well as sports organizations on the island of Curaçao. |
