President Grabar - Kitarović Holds Meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, discussing gender equality and empowerment of women
During her State Visit to Canada the President of the Republic Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović met with the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, with whom she discussed, among other issues, gender equality and empowerment of women.
Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated the Croatian President for assuming the Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders, the only organization in the world dedicated to women heads of state and government. The President thanked him and congratulated the Canadian leadership for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as their commitment to the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
In the continuation of her State Visit to Canada, President Grabar-Kitarović visited the Elmwood School for girls. In her conversation with eighth and ninth grade students she stressed the importance of education for girls and young women for the development of the global society. She told them that during her Presidential mandate she has encouraged girls and women to stand up for themselves and their rights and she has done so at different venues including the United Nations, at meetings with girls attending high school and university, and in everyday encounters. She considers education to be the key for promoting tolerance and encouraging efforts to build a better future for women and consequently for men, as well as for humankind as a whole, because education is the most powerful weapon against all forms of prejudice and injustice.
